Cultural Education Programs

Since

Since 1991, Elaine K. Stover and F. Nelson Stover have worked with others to develop a suite of courses and presentations designed to enable participants to change their modes of action in ways that are mutually beneficial to human society and the natural world.  The courses focus on building a contemporary and convincing context out of which to make sustainable and responsible decisons in the 21st Century.  Over the past decade, these programs have been conducted across the US and internationally by the Stover’s and other faculty.  To accompany this suite of educational opportunities, a series of papers has been produced which outline the breadth and depth of the cultural transformation necessary to provide a long-term sustainable future.

greenschemes offers educational seminars as well as experiential programes designed to expand the contextual framework out of which people function in their daily lives.  Click here to download the complete current schedule of greenschemes' Cultural Education programs.  These programs draw heavily on the insights of cultural historian Thomas Berry.

In order for people to experience the 14-billion year long story of the Universe in which they live, we have established a Universe Story Walk on our property.  Please let us know if you plan to join in one of the monthly walks.

Along the 1/2 mile walk through the woods, markers have been erected to represent each billion years of the Universe's history.  For each of the billion-year posts, voyagers will find a contextual reading that tells the Universe’s accomplishments and developments during that period.  “Ponder-able Points” in the guidebook focus the voyagers’ attention on places in their own lives where they might see the great dynamics of the Universe at work.

On May 9th a special one-day Conversation with the Cosmos will be held.  This all-day walk will included time for in-depth reflection at each of the stages of the Universe Walk.  For further details or to register click here.

This walk is available to individuals and groups upon request.  Monthly Universe Walks occur at 4:00 on the 4th Sunday afternoon of each month (February through October).  This narrated walk draws on the writings of Thomas Berry and Brian Swimme in their book "The Universe Story".

Groups and organizations wishing to have an introduction to the cultural foundations being used in the greenschemes educational programs are invited to host a presentation by F. Nelson Stover.  Mr. Stover presents, through the use of photographs taken in his extensive travels, an overview of the unique characteristics of the 21st Century social and environmental situation. His presentation includes insights into how the predominant cultural patterns of the 20th Century are preventing resolution to the major crises being experienced in the 21st Century.  He also provides practical suggestions as to the kinds of foundational cultural pattern changes that are required in order to creatively respond.  You may download a flyer about the Cultural Tsunami presentation here.
